Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) ?

C-TPAT is an initiative of the Customs Border Protection (CBP) of the USA which becomes a certification. C-TPAT is a program in which all participants in the supply chain follow cooperatively the provisions, and security measures for each phase of their operations with the CBP, not excluding the exchange of ideas and knowledge on further controls in order to prevent terrorists and/or suspicious merchandise from entering the USA.

C-TPAT is actually voluntary. This is not to say that CBP will make C-TPAT program mandatory one day. There are four principal objectives concerning C-TPAT :

  • To make cross border movements more secure and move the legal responsibility from American customs to the importer of record.
  • Heighten the level of knowledge and the importance of having a security platform.
  • Uniform the applicable procedures with the provisions with respect to companies supply chains.
  • Develop collaboration between the American government and the business communities, in Quebec, Canada and internationally.
